Movesense Upgrade

1 – Prerequisites

  • keep this page open on your computer, you will need it as you move along the process.
  • don’t worry if this seems long, it’s only because the instructions are very detailed. it should not take more than few minute per device.
  • download the firmware from https://bitbucket.org/suunto/movesense-device-lib/. check subfolder /samples/bin/release/
  • select the HR wake up version, with bootloader.
  • make sure phone is plugged to charger
  • make sure the battery of the movesense is in good shape or new
  • if not already installed, install nrf toolbox : https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/nrf-toolbox/id820906058?mt=8
  • do one device at a time. remove the batteries of the other devices.

2 – Put Movesense in DFU mode

  • open holon.ist
  • device must be connected (green) in holon.ist
  • tap it in the list of connected devices (second section in the list) to select it
  • tap the “DFU” button
  • the led should be solid RED on the device.
  • congrats, the device is ready for upgrade

3 – Flash the boot loader (if unsure, it is safe to do this step)

  • very similar to point 4. but we will here flash the bootloader
  • click the zip file in the email and use the share dialog to import and select copy to NRF.
  • if needed, in the NRF app, push the “DFU” button
  • pop should appear : select “System Only” (we will update app in the next step)
  • select device (black button at bottom of the screen): one device on the list should have name “dfutarg”.
  • upload the file. (button “upload” in the middle of the screen)
  • once the updates finished, the led stays red. this is normal.
  • go to iphone settings, and disable and enable bluetooth. needed to reset the BT stack for next step!

4 – flash the movesense firmware/app

  • very similar to point 3. but we will here flash the application.
  • find email with firmware
  • click the zip file in the email and use the share dialog to import and select copy to NRF.
  • if needed, in the NRF app, push the “DFU” button
  • this will open the nrf toolbox app.
  • pop should appear : select “Application only” (we will update app in the next step)
  • select device (black button at bottom of the screen): one device on the list should have name “dfutarg”.
  • upload the file. (button “upload” in the middle of the screen)
  • once the upload is completed, you can restart the movesense (pop the battery)
  • that’s it !!
